Anglosphere

There was a time the English were at the cutting edge of every intellectual field. These days cleverness in public debate is a performance evasion of new thinking (and listening), never engaging with the substance of any challenging or heterodox argument. Instead, the game is to find safe shared ground and reduce it to caricature; a straw man which is then attacked or reviled or whatever. Bookend the evasion with faux-convivial credentialism, like sentences starting “as a blah blah…” or the tried and tested deconstructing familiar words into Latin epistemological roots – and voila, the new English model for discourse.

It’s a weird Saatchi and Saatchi version of intellectual discussion with no interest in the subject under discussion.

EUROSPHERE

“Some sources aren’t commonly cited in the mainstream media, but can fasten onto the truth behind the story. Sometimes these sources will seed of articles that’ll germinate (after the appropriate douching by the bullshit spigot) in the popular press.  Sometimes they’ll be suppressed.”
“I have of late but wherefore I know not lost all my mirth…”
