English Regional Devolution. Scottish Independence. London Autonomy.

The United Kingdom is made up of four “countries” with very different histories. England, the largest, essentially conquered and integrated the others under the English Crown, formalized in the Act of Union 1707.
More recently, there has been a drive to allow devolution in the four nations, with England further divided into seven distinct geographical cultural regions. Scotland’s momentum towards independence is the strongest, both in terms of representation and independent sociocultural identity.
Recent referendum on independence from England was close: 54% for staying together, 46% for full independence. Brexit has compounded the Scottish call for autonomy. Scotland is keen to rejoin the European Union.
